The new iPhone 11

Honestly, nothing spectacular this time around.

If you really want to upgrade, upgrade but, I’d rather wait for next year or even switch.

IOS is quite unstable lately and I don’t really like losing my contacts without warning or my phone stalling and rebooting for no good reason.

So, what’s new?

Apple reduced pricing for the new iPhone 11, not rediculously high like last year.
They’ve also cut prices on the iPhone Xr and the iPhone 8.

There are two models. The iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone Pro Max. Now, I’m just waiting for the new iPhone 11 Pro Max Extreme Plus, or something silly like that. Seriously though, what’s with the stupid naming convention?

The new A13 Bionic chip, which is capable of performing up to one trillion operations per second and includes the latest-generation Apple machine-learning technology, will be packed in both the new iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The chip uses a 7nm manufacturing process, only because they couldn’t design a 5nm, and includes over 8.5 billion transistors, with all of its cores being up to 20% faster than the A12 Bionic – while also being more power-efficient.

It won’t make a big difference in my life, to be honest. Apart from saving some battery life, it translates into nothing practical. At least your phone will crash quicker. Nice to know.

The iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8 inch screen and the Pro Max a 6.5 inch screen.

Both will come with iOS 13, FaceID, IP68 rating, lightning ports, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, A13 Bionic processor, 3 12MP cameras at the rear and 1 12MP camera in the front.

Storage options includes 64, 256 and 512GB. No SD card slot.

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max will be available from 27 September in South Africa.

I am not upgrading this time around.

Cash Reader – App for recognizing currency

NOW YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE WITHOUT ASKING YOUR NEIGHBOR’S COUSIN!

Cash Reader is a commercial money reading mobile app for the blind and vision impaired that enables the user to distinguish amongst a variety of currencies.

Some of the currencies that this app can currently recognize include South African Rand, Bolivian Boliviano, Russian ruble, Swiss franc, Icelandic króna, Kenyan shilling, etc.

In my case, I am living in South Africa and thus, I’m rather happy to note that this app is able to recognize South African currency with absolute ease and accuracy.

This application can be downloaded for both Android and iOS operating systems and the Free version recognizes only two or three lowest denominations for every currency.

At present, only the iOS version is able to recognize South African currency.  According to the developer, implementation will be completed soon.

What impressed me about the app is the fact that you do not need an internet connection in order for it to successfully identify currency.  The other feature that I find useful, is the fact that you can simply point your phone in the approximate direction of the currency in order for it to start recognition, which takes place almost instantaneously.

Additionally, you can choose to hear the denomination announced in speech or with vibrations for the more privacy aware.

The initial setup and getting started is really easy for novice users.

At R99 per year, or R279 for life, this is a must have app for every blind and vision impaired person in South Africa.

Download your free 14-day demonstration version today and take this beauty for a spin!

For Android users, download the app from the Google PlayStore.

For iOS users, download the app from the Apple App Store

New and updated Social Bundles from Cell C

Today, 20 September 2017, Cell C gave their social media package a sort of facelift.

They have increased the options and have added anynet minutes, sms messages and access to games.

The validity period also looks reasonable.

Although, to be very honest, I still don’t really see much value in sms messages.

I will still test the service out and give further feedback in an updated post.

In any case, please see the table below for a quick overview:
